Game of Thrones: The magic of HBO produced series…

Well, I might not watch a lot of ‘live’ television, but there are some real gems out there if you’re looking for them. I can assure you that Game Of Thrones is one of those. This series bears no similarity to Lord of the Rings or whatsoever. It’s got a tale of its own.

Game of Thrones is an HBO-produced series based on the first novel of “A song of fire and ice” written and published by George R. R. Martin in 1996. While most other series are based off of books, this comes as no surprise, the translation to cinematography and sound however are.

I have not been able to read these books and I don’t think I’m going to. But looking at how the production company behind these series has managed to bring out the magic of fantasy without going into repetitiveness (This is how I feel about Lord of the Rings) and overstating certain facts that happen inside of the series. I feel that Game of Thrones has more protagonists, and it really comes to show when you’re able to sit-through the ten 1-hour long episodes that make up the first season.

The story is about Kings, Lords, Thrones and evil-creatures that come to lurk from out of the cold behind the Wall. If you want to know what I meant by that sentence, I suppose you’d better get started on seeing them. I’m not much for spoiling things, so I won’t give away any facts.

The world of fantasy, sci-fi and it’s marvelous creatures has always gripped me. It takes a while to get the story going and it might seem hard to get into, but I hope you can stick with it. I can’t wait for season 2.

Now here’s a couple of fun-facts:

  • It is said that the pilot of “Game of Thrones” costed somewhere around 5-10 Million US $.
  • By average one episode has an average total cost of  5-6 Million US $.
  • GOT has an average gross audience (linear plays, DVR and HBO On Demand) of 8.3 million viewers.
  • It was entirely filmed in Northern Ireland. (Economic specifics can be found here)

Here’s a comparison on the budgets of other big television productions:
